Whoa! So much done, but still so much to do…

Hi all!

We’ve now been in Grande Prairie for about 10 days, and in that time we’ve managed to check several things off of our ever growing list of things to get done. Who would have thought that moving back to Canada and starting a new life in a completely different city would be so much work (okay, we knew it would). But still, we’ve done a lot, and most of it occurred yesterday, on our second wedding anniversary.

Let’s see: yesterday we managed to register our new car (a Nissan Sentra), sign the paper work on our new home (a beautiful condo half-house), and we still had time to enjoy a wonderful meal at the local Italian restaurant to celebrate our happy marriage. It was bit hectic for me, juggling the car insurance and phone calls from what were essentially competing landlords. I guess we come off as desirable tenants around here.

Laura’s new job is off to a good start. She’s been bouncing around meetings, rubbing elbows with the local political big wigs, and starting to tuck into the work she will have ahead of her getting to know more about the project and planning her approach to program development. While I was taking care of our domestic and transportation needs on our anniversary, Laura was conducting media interviews with the local paper and TV station. Exciting!

As some of you know, I’ve also been plugging away hard on setting up my own business up here. For three years I’ve been performing freelance work for a variety of clients doing graphic design, photography, web design and editing, and once we decided to make a go of Grande Prairie, I decided it would be the perfect opportunity for me to finally strike out on my own, making this work full-time. I won’t lie; it is an ambitious plan to start up a new business like this while brand new to town, but Grande Prairie couldn’t be a more perfect community to do it. It is a very dynamic place, with lots of potential clients, and an easy-going approach to business dealings. Things have been great so far. I’ll be focusing on blogging over at the new site for a while, but we do still have plans for OutThereSomewhere.ca.

I will also be building another site at beauchampphotography.ca in order to promote the wedding, portrait, and family photography services I am setting up. There’s only a filler page there for now, but I hope to have the site up and running before the end of the month. These are very exciting times for us! Hope to hear from you all soon.
